Reducing speed limits on non-arterial roads is seen as key to supporting City’s active transportation, social development, and climate goals and policies, says Fry.
In 2019, Council voted unanimously in favour of the concept of 30km per hour speed limits on local roads. On April 10th, Councillor Pete Fry of the Green Party of Vancouver will bring forward a motion titled Revisiting and Refreshing Vancouver’s Commitment to Safer Slower Streets. The refreshed motion aims to limit micromobility (ie. electric scooters) and cars to the same speed limit of 30km per hour on local roads, also used by non-motorized modes of transportation such as bicycles. The motion also throws support behind Sweden's Vision Zero strategy to eliminate all traffic fatalities. Support Councillor Fry's motion by signing the petition and sharing it with your network!
